About Us

The Studio of Young Artists’ Association (SYAA) is a professional organisation, which has been functioning for already 6 decades, always giving dynamic responses to current art and social issues. The Association has a membership of about 500 artists, art historians, and critics.

The objective of the association is to facilitate the emergence and the work of its members in the cultural and artistic life. We foster the establishment of professional contacts, our members’ presence in Hungarian and international exhibitions and residencies, and we provide them with information and organizational support. The cultural and artistic program is formed by the active members of the association while the structural background and coordination are managed by the board. The association also helps Hungarian and foreign curators and artists to get in contact with the young Hungarian art scene and to build collaborations.

We maintain relationships with Hungarian and foreign art organisations from Finland to Buenos Aires. The aim of our international projects is to contribute to the reputation of Hungarian art and to create possibilities of co-operation among the members of the international art world and the young generation of Hungarian artists.

The permanent exhibition space of the association is the Studio Gallery. The aim of the gallery is to provide space for the realization of the most current, progressive projects. Simultaneously with the exhibitions, the gallery also organizes events that make the encounter possible between the wider public and the artists (artists’ lectures, video projections, round-table discussions, etc.). The course of the usually three-week exhibitions is diversified by festival-like events: such as the “Gallery by Night”, a series of one-night exhibitions.

The Studio owns a 600-item art collection. This is comprised of the one-time studio members’ artworks purchased during mostly in the 70ies and 80ies. Unfortunately since the early 90ies there has been no fund for further purchases.
